This is a page to clarify some of our membership policies for the slightly non-standard membership categories.

Youth membership

We accept youth members, subject to rules as described in our Youth and Child protection criteria.

Concessionary membership

Available to anyone who is a full-time student, unemployed, or retired at the time of applying. Suitable proof must be provided on application. Membership fees are the same as for Youth membership.

Family membership

Available to anyone living at the same address as an Adult member. Note that (at least) one person at that address must have adult membership, you can’t just all be family members.

Associate membership

Associate membership is available to anyone over 18 years old, who lives more than 50 miles from Bristol. At the discretion of the committee, it may be allowed for people who live closer but are unlikely to be using club facilities in any significant amount.

Temporary membership

Subject to approval from the discipline lead, visiting members from other canoe clubs can participate in up to three club activities in the Bristol Harbour as temporary members, to share their expertise with our club members. This exception provides access to equipment, license to paddle on the Harbour and third-party insurance through our affiliation to British Canoeing, during the club activity. The activity leader or discipline lead must record the name, email, address of the new member/visitor along with date of activity. These contact details should be sent to the membership secretary.
