Editorial
A smaller issue this time, even though I have to apologise for the delay in producing this magazine. I will try harder next time… The deadline for the next issue will be around 1st November 2004.

Slalom News
Bernie Cole, after 26 years in division two, has just been promoted to division one, after a very successful event at the Nene.
Although Bernie will probably not be known to many of you, as he now only paddles slalom, he is one of the oldest members of the club (in years as a member, as well as age !!) and is to be congratulated for doing so well.

Pool Games Night – March 2004
Thanks very much to Lisa and Teresa who organised this year’s games night. We enjoyed the usual mix of odd games and excuses to sink each other’s boats. Particularly fascinating was the ‘jousting’, demonstrating that some people have hidden talents…

THE 2004 ROLLING COMPETITION
Since the esteemed Health & Safety Inspection of the South Bristol pool stopped the Club from storing boats there committee members have taken turns at ‘Boat Patrol’ i.e. ferrying kit from cage to pool and back again each Wednesday. So when my allotted ‘Boat Patrol’ duty coincided with the Clubs ‘Rolling Competition’ it seemed only reasonable to stand as competition judge and referee Conor having retired from the position having received a better offer.
Being more interested (as we ladies often are) in performance than speed I do not possess a stopwatch, would an egg timer do? Apparently not, fortunately Tony is better equipped. Armed with loaned timepiece and clipboard on that rather busy pool session I sat in judgement.
I discovered that the competitors were keen. The Welsh Prince Jones was eager to ensure that any River Goddess did not beat him, two years running and put in a very creditable performance. The unexpected appearance of a small contingent from the clubs Dark Side (Marathon Section) increased the pressure. Those used to the discipline of Marathon showed an early tendency to lose speed coming up due to their gaining considerable forward momentum whilst under the water. Nevertheless their overwhelming competitive streak ensured victory would be theirs.
Meanwhile none member Mr Scott declined to show us what he’s made of but Lad was not so shy, his results however cannot be printed due to a technicality.
