Bristol Canoe Club will again be running beginners courses on Bristol Harbour in 2024. The course is run in four evening sessions from our base at Baltic Wharf on the Harbour. We provide all the kit you need to learn to safely kayak on flat water. Each session lasts about two hours. At the end of the course you will receive the British Canoeing ‘Discover’ award.

We run the course on Bristol Harbour which is a great place to learn to kayak. We access the harbour from the pontoon at Baltic Wharf, by the Cottage Inn. Note that this is a complete beginners course for Kayak, We assume you have not paddled a kayak before. At the end of four weeks you will be able to paddle on flat water. During the course you’ll become familiar with the equipment and learn to paddle forward, backwards, sideways, stop, turn, and safely capsize. You’ll get to experience paddling on Bristol Harbour and enjoy views of the harbour from the water (including the SS Great Britain and all the other interesting boats on the harbour). If you’ve already done a fair bit of flat water paddling, this may not be the course for you.

The cost of the course is £100. Information on how to book on the course is provided below.

Please note that even if you can’t make all the dates on the course it’s important to attend the first course where you will be introduced to your coach and receive a briefing on equipment you will use and safety on the water.
